Fairy Tale

She thought she knew her story

The story she mistook for a fairy tale

She said she was the princess wearing a crown

Waiting for her prince in her castle up in the clouds

Yet her patience grew thin

As her knight in shining armor remains missing

Her castle no longer feels like home

A dreaded prison she needs to escape from

So she cut off her long, flowing locks

And ditched her embroidered gown

Standing naked in front of a mirror

She saw a woman grown

No prince or knight will come and save her

So she thought to escape her darkened castle

Wearing an armor made from light and shadows

She fought the monsters and villains that lived in her halls

Bloodied, bruised, and hurting

She stepped down and out from the castle, her prison

Stronger than when she was first brought in

She was no longer a princess but a queen proud and standing tall

Locked in a Tower

Waiting
in the topmost tower
imprisoned
from the world below
caged
like a flightless bird
Wingless
perched by the only eye
Watching
the dancing trees that line
Paved darkness
that none dared to pass by
trapped
in the silence of the stars
whispering
songs of longing to the wind
hoping
that someone would come and steal
this soul
perishing in the tower strong

Behind the Starlit Skies

Behind the star lit skies there lies
a princess with wings crying in the night.
For she is waiting for her lover true,
who only comes when the moon is blue.
She knows he is the one for her,
but why is it taking him so long?
To come and brighten her world,
just like the way the sun does in the morning.
Her nights are all quiet and dark,
except for her star-lit lanterns that she hung
around her little cloudy castle,
to light his way back into her arms.

I Never Wanted

I never wanted
all the riches of the world,
for even when I’m living
in a house full of cracks and holes,
everything will look perfect
if I am with you.

I never wanted
fine jewels to grace my hands and neck.
For a crown of flowers upon my head
is more precious to me than all the gold
if it was given by you.

I never wanted
to be dressed in satin and silk,
for I am not a princess nor do I wish to be.
Even the plainest of clothes I will wear,
if it will bring that beautiful smile
to your face.

I never wanted
to be flaunted to the world,
just to tell me how much I am loved.
Even when it’s just the two of us
in our own little corner of the world,
I will still love the love you offer me.

Queen in Me

Okay, so this very short poem is something just popped into my head a few days ago. Just thought I’d put it here for your enjoyment. 😀

Queen in Me

Don’t treat me like a princess

for I am already a queen.

My kingdom is where I want it to be.

I have had enough of charming words

and teasing under the tree.

Woo me with actions and let’s see

whether you can delight the queen in me.
